A Ball, Some Friends, and a Soccer Goal

...ll through a rectangle shape appropriately called the goal. Though the rectangle is standard, goals can be made by placing any two objects a few steps apart. I have personally played in neighborhood games where the goal posts were chairs, barrels, younger siblings, and shoes (if you're playing barefoot, make sure no one is wearing cleats). Kicking the ball below head height and more or less between the makeshift goal posts constitutes a goal, though you will find each goal will be heavily debated.

Competitive leagues almost always require shin guards, and you can usually pick up a decent pair for pretty cheap. Even in a friendly park setting, players can get pretty passionate, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to wear them during the game.

The rules are simple and easy to learn. The basics you need to know are that you should try to avoid kicking people, you can't tackle people like in american football, and you can't use your hands. In that sense, except for the hands restriction, soccer is a lot like life. Other rules apply more in competition, but it wouldn't hurt to read up on them at www.fifa.com.

As with any sport, the most important thing is to look good, so go out and buy yourself some silky soccer shorts and jerseys. Long hair and an Italian accent certainly won't hurt your chances of going pro - but if neither of those is an option for you, just remember to have fun and play fair.more

Soccer Coaches Plan, a basic Introduction to the Season

...edic screening before engaging in plyometric training.
Particular attention should be given to structural or postural problems that are likely to predispose the athlete to injury.

Young athletes

Some authors suggest that moderate jumps can be included in the athletic training of very young children.
However, great care needs to be exerted when prescribing any training procedures for pre-adolescent children. Because of the relatively immature bone structure in pre-adolescent and adolescent children, the very great forces exerted during intensive depth jumps should be avoided

Injuries & Defense

...oss to the Steelers saw an Indy team that was rusty for most of the game. Very rusty.

The Colts were out of sync most of the way in their 21-18 loss to the Steelers. Overall, having a bye week gives a team enough time, two weeks, to rest and prepare. It takes time and practice to get a team in sync because there are so many players that need to work together in unison: Blocking patterns, running backs hitting the proper holes, lineman pulling, receivers running patterns, quarterbacks getting the football to them on timing routes, etc.

Think back to the final regular season game for the Denver Broncos. Denver was a 12-point dog at San Diego in a meaningless game for the Broncos. They had everything sewed up and needed...more

Sin City Super Bowl

...urgh-Seattle game throughout their casinos, offering food and drink specials.

Vegans and tourists also have the option of watching Super bowl XL in sports books throughout Nevada; just come early, stake your claim (some bet shops feature more comfortable chairs than others), make your wagers and start searching for those specials.

Harrah's will give patrons Super bowl t-shirts with $50 parlay wagers and showing the game at its Piano, Carnaval, Winning Streaks and other bars, while fiesta Rancho will give away a 2006 Dodge Ram during festivities.

Many former NFL stars will spend Super bowl weekend in Sin City, but most will maintain low profiles to escape media glare.

They'll limit public appearances to things like "tributes" and charity auctions, then mix and mingle "privately."

John Elway, for one, should thank the Steelers for creaming Denver in the AFC title game, as he already was committed here. So's Dan Marino, who never really had a reason to believe he'd be anywhere else on Super bowl Sunday.
